The wardrobe accessory that cannot be hidden in the drawer…….
Yes that’s right – your hair!
While most of us have far more low-maintenance hair than our sisters of years gone by, have less time on our hands to spend hours and weeks of our lives in salons, and often like to wash and go, we all know that if it goes horribly wrong that it can be a nightmare – not forgetting the time cost and damage to getting the hair back to an acceptable state.
With this in mind it is important to point out to your stylist not just your ‘wants’ but more importantly your ‘don’t wants’…..this gives them a clearer view of where NOT to go with your tresses! Many misunderstandings are through lack of communication or occasionally a determined hairdresser ‘that knows what is right for you’ and not always with the best consequences!………
Yes, confidence from your stylist is of course important, but equally so, is listening and hearing (which are different!) and building up a dialogue with customers and earning their trust.
However we are lucky in that this this a first-world problem and what is life without a little risk-taking, adventure and looking after yourself?
So why not start with your hair? If you are rather nervous and view the hairdresser with the same love you reserve for your dentist, a pre-consultation is a must – if not and you accept that hair DOES grow back, then a little impulse is no bad thing!
In any case, regular trims are a must – even if it is a teeny amount – this builds trust with your stylist while you discuss your options and retains the good condition of your hair.
With regard to colour, a few soft face-framing highlights do wonders to lift your complexion and give your hair a boost – whilst also showing off the haircut. Stray greys can be disguised with a combination of hi/low lights together with a colour bath, which catches any remaining light hair and blends them. This has the more gentle option of a less visible re-growth than with a permanent tint, thereby saving you time spent (and money, darn!) with your hairdresser! If greys are not your issue, then colour baths in any case add deep condition and shine.
So now you know how hair can be transformed with a select few foils, temporary colour or just a well-delivered/deserved blow-dry; just don’t forget to book your appointment early for perfect Christmas hair!
Julia recommends anyone wishing to have any colour technique to book a free consultation, as all colour prescriptions are custom-blended for each individual client, and may need to be ordered in!
